Here's the truth: if I'm the Music Director or Music Supervisor on a theatre project, I'm also the (or a) Music Producer when it gets recorded, regardless of whether I hold the title or not. It's still my point of view on the music, and I'm usually doing the scheduling and running the sessions. The only thing I'm not doing is raising the money. I suppose I've missed out on a few Grammy nominations by not insisting on the title, but frankly, with brilliant folks like Stewart Lerman and Scott Riesett out there doing phenomenal work producing recordings, I'm more than happy with my lot in life.
